Aussies urged to explore "last frontier" of Pacific

Pacific island nations Kiribati and the Marshall Islands have launched a new combined marketing campaign in Australia, with their sights set on the adventure travel sector.

The three-month campaign, their first in the local market, comes on the back of new air services linking both remote destinations with Australia. Our Airline, formerly Air Nauru, has launched a new service from Brisbane to Kiribati via Nauru, and launched a new weekly service from Brisbane to Majuro in the Marshalls in December last year.

The campaign, being managed by Sydney-based Tropics Tourism and Marketing, will include online digital advertising, social and print media with the launch of new Australian websites www.gotokiribati.com.au and www.gotomarshallislands.com.au.

Marshall Islands general manager Brenda Alik-Maddison highlighted the water sports attractions on offer in the destination.

"The campaign will focus on our niche markets of fishing, diving, surfing in addition to cultural experiences and remote island escapes and is very much targeted towards the adventure travel sector," she said.

Kiribati will also appeal to the adventure travel sector through the campaign, according to the Kiribati National Tourism Office director Reeti Onorio-Rui.

"Our country is one of the last frontiers of Pacific tourism and offers the traveller a truly unique island adventure," she said.

The campaigns are being supported by Pacific Islands Trade and Invest in Sydney.
