Britain shivers as UK summer comes to Melbourne
By admin

Temperatures may be sub zero in Britain but commuters at Melbourne's Southern Cross Station were yesterday treated to the wonders of a UK summer.

As Britain freezes in the coldest March for a half a century, STA Travel and VisitBritain tempted workers with that very British summer treat, strawberries and cream, served in a replica British garden complete with a Union Jack-drapped Kombi.

The promotion was part of a wider campaign to encourage more Australians to visit the British countryside.

It comes off the back of VisitBritain research which showed, contrary to popular belief, Aussies are not simply "uncultured lovers of the sun, beach and lazing around".

Nearly half of all Australian visitors to the UK will visit a museum while one in three will take in an art gallery.

Pictured playing croquet on the lawn are STA's Kate Robertson and Alex Trifonidis.
