Amadeus claims to have strengthened its market leading position for travel agency air bookings as it reported a rise in earnings in the 12 months to December.

The technology firm said it now holds 38.6% of agency flight bookings after lifting its share by 0.9 percentage points during the year. The number of bookings improved 3.5% to 416.5m.

Earnings before interest and tax climbed 6.6% to 1.1 billion Euros on a revenue increase of 7.5% to almost 3b Euros.

Adjusted profit grew to 575m Euros, up 18%.

The company said revenue in its distribution business climbed almost 6% to 2.2b Euros.

It added that bookings of low cost carriers through travel agents "continues to be an area of growth", rising 14.9% in the fourth quarter and 14.6% over the 12 month period.
