Liquid Festivals of China

Liquid Festivals of China

Qingdao International Beer Festival is all about drinking. Who can drink the most, who can brew the best and who can taste the best – some competition contestants sup through straws. Held on the beach in Qingdao, this is a two week carnival and the largest beer festival in Asia.

Shaoxing Rice Wine Festival takes place in October and will celebrate its 23rd year running with entertainment, local brewery tours and drinking, of course. The strong yellow alcohol is Shaoxing's major export and it makes more than 110,000 tons of the tipple per year.

Water Splashing Festival is held in April and does exactly what the name says. Celebrated by the large Dai population in China's Yunnan province, the tradition sees a bathing of the Buddha to bring health and luck. Bring your swimmers.
