Tasmanian team tackles tourism recovery

A marketing taskforce has been assembled to help Tasmania rebuild its tourism industry in the aftermath of last week's bushfires.

The campaign team, which incorporates members of Tourism Tasmania, the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania, regional tourism organisations and visitor information centres, will "determine the shape" of post-bushfire marketing activity in order to push the message that Tasmania is ready to receive visitors.

State minister for tourism Scott Bacon stressed it is an "important time" for Tasmania's tourism industry.

"It's essential visitors are aware they can still come to our state and enjoy our wilderness, our heritage, our fine food and our arts and cultural experiences," he said.

However, Bacon insisted the industry remains optimistic, despite the setback.

"Ultimately, we want to see a range of local and interstate campaigns that attract visitors to our state, get them to support businesses in those areas affected by the fires, and ensure the industry can continue to have confidence in their future," he said.

The activity will be in addition to Tourism Tasmania's ongoing marketing and will involve direct marketing, events, activities and a "high profile" media campaign.
