Qantas to submit fresh SAA codeshare bid

Qantas to submit fresh SAA codeshare bid
By admin

Qantas will submit a fresh application to codeshare with South African Airways after dropping Judicial Review proceedings over the previous refusal to approve the agreement.

The carrier said it has agreed with the International Air Services Commission to discontinue the action with Qantas invited to lodge a new application.

"Qantas and the IASC have agreed to discontinue the Judicial Review proceedings and the IASC has invited Qantas to submit a new application for authorisation of the codeshare," the airline said in a statement. "Qantas will submit a new application shortly."

The IASC rejected an application to extend the codeshare for five years on competition grounds, a decision which angered Qantas and led to the lodgement of a Judicial Review.

Aviation observers said it was highly unlikely the IASC would invite Qantas to submit a new application only to reject it again.

"The application may be for a shorter period of time but the chances are it will be approved," one said.
