Replacing the recently resigned Peter Brady (CWT), the AFTA board invited Orient Express Travel Group’s (OETG) Tom Manwaring to fill the casual vacancy as director.

OTEG chief executive officer Tom Manwaring said the group’s business covers a broad range of travel agency businesses across the country. “I look forward to contributing to the future of the industry as an AFTA director” Manwaring said.

The AFTA AGM last week saw the unanimous re-election of Mike Thompson (helloworld) as the chairman of the AFTA board of directors and two vice chair positions with Elizabeth Gaines (helloworld) and Graham Turner (Flight Centre) taking the positions.

AFTA chief executive Jayson Westbury commended Mike Thompson on the consistency of his role as chairman delivering the board great solidarity of purpose over the past few years

“I am delighted to have been re-elected Chairman of AFTA, a role that I greatly enjoy within an industry that I love” Thompson said.

Westbury added the board will continue to set the policy agenda for the organization, with the addition of Manwaring to the board increasing the representation across a “diverse travel agency community in Australia.”

The AFTA board will come together for the first time in September to consider the many issues facing the industry at this time.
