Magellan GM comments on Helloworld acquisition at annual conference

Magellan Travel’s general manager has commented on the company’s “bright future” within the Helloworld family.

Speaking at the 2018 Magellan Conference on Thursday morning, Macfarlane focused his opening address on the acquisition.

“The acquisition of Magellan by Helloworld Travel Limited has delivered the best of both worlds to our members – preserving everything we love about Magellan and adding further benefits such as additional income streams, new marketing opportunities, added customer benefits and investment in technology,” he said.

CEO and managing director of Helloworld Travel Limited, Andrew Burnes, also welcomed members and preferred partners to the conference.

This year’s theme and focus on the future was further highlighted by a keynote address from Dianne McGrath, Mars One Astronaut Candidate.

The morning session wrapped up with industry presentations from Paul Fraser, Head of Integrated Operations Centre at Qantas Airways and Cinzia Burnes, Executive Director and Head of Wholesale & Inbound, Helloworld Travel Limited.

The afternoon session saw members actively participate in member service workshops which focused on Technology, Employment Law, Learning and Development and Business Coaching.

The technology workshop further highlighted the benefit of Helloworld Travel’s ability to invest in technology and the benefits to members across the retail business.

Hannah Ellis of The Workplace – Employment Lawyers lead an interactive workshop educating members on best practice people management.

This was then followed by Lisa Harrison of Three Little Birds Business Consulting, Lisa provided members with a practical approach to working on their businesses, not just in their businesses.

“Supporting our members to work effectively on their businesses as well as in their businesses was a key focus of this afternoons workshop sessions,” Macfarlane said.

“Our conference theme this year focuses on shaping our futures and we firmly believe that equipping our members with these insights and skills will greatly assist them and the future of their businesses.”

The first full day of the 2018 Magellan Conference wrapped up with an evening at heritage-listed, amusement center, Luna Park.

After pre-dinner drinks, and before a lavish dinner in the Crystal Palace overlooking the Opera House, there was an array of rides, sideshow games and entertainment courtesy of Air New Zealand.
