Lombok set for growth as AirAsia intends to develop new hub
Lombok is set to grow its tourist arrivals as AirAsia confirms its intention to develop a new hub in Indonesia’s West Nusa Tenggara province.
The announcement, which follows a series of post-earthquake recovery discussions is a welcomed boost for visitors and the local tourism industry, helping to realise the Indonesian Government’s sustainable tourism agenda to develop ‘10 New Balis’.
As part of AirAsia’s commitment to the communities of West Nusa Tengarra, the airline is also in discussions to develop sustainable tourism initiatives.
AirAsia commenced international services from Kuala Lumpur to Lombok in October 2012, and currently operates 7 return flights per week between Lombok and Malaysia’s capital.
Fiji Airways launches “Love Is in the Air…fare”
Fiji Airways, Fiji’s National Airline, has launched its ‘’Love is in the Air…fare’’ campaign giving passengers
special fares discounted up to 59% just in time to surprise that special someone for Valentine’s Day.

China Southern Airlines celebrates its Eighth Year as Sydney Festival Sponsor
China Southern Airlines celebrated its eighth year as sponsor of the Sydney Festival with a spectacular event at Parramatta Park on January 19th.
The airline, who is the sponsor of the Festival’s free program, is one of the main sponsors of the hugely popular Symphony Under the Stars, with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
As a part of the festivities, the airline is giving away two complimentary business class tickets to Guangzhou. More details about the giveaway are below.
China Southern Airlines is a regular sponsor of Australian cultural and sporting institutions and is also a sponsor of the Adelaide Crows and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
China Southern is the world’s fifth largest airline, with 820 jets in the fleet and last year transported passengers on over 139 million journeys. In Australia and New Zealand, the airline services 8 cities on 90 flight routes, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Cairns, Auckland and Christchurch.
Air Vanuatu confirms new commission structure
Air Vanuatu, the national airline of Vanuatu, has advised it will be adjusting its sales commission structure.
Effective 1 February 2019, standard commission for travel agents will be reduced from 7 per cent to 5 per cent on all international flights, while commission on all Vanuatu domestic flights (sold in isolation) will reduce from 5 per cent to 3 per cent.
The changes will apply to all Air Vanuatu (NF-218) plated ticket stock for tickets issued in Australia. All fares are inclusive of fuel surcharges.
Air Vanuatu currently operates seven non-stop flights per week from Sydney to Port Vila, Vanuatu and four non-stop flights per week from Brisbane to Port Vila, Vanuatu.
The airline also offers two non-stop flights per week from Brisbane to Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu – Vanuatu’s largest island. The airline operates a Business Class service on all flights to and from Australia.
Air New Zealand extends summer of free Wi-Fi
Air New Zealand’s complimentary inflight Wi-Fi summer offer to customers has been such a hit the airline is extending it.
Wi-Fi is now available on 12 international aircraft, including six Boeing 777-200s and four Boeing 777-300s which predominantly fly the airline’s trans-Tasman, US and London routes and two A321neo aircraft which operate Tasman and Pacific Island services.
Air New Zealand General Manager Customer Experience Anita Hawthorne says more than 80,000 people have connected to complimentary Wi-Fi on international flights since 1 December, which is the equivalent to the population of Palmerston North.
Standard Wi-Fi on Air New Zealand services is charged at $30 NZD for a full flight to Australia and the Pacific Islands and $40 for the duration of a flight to North America, Europe and Asia destinations. There is also a 1-hour pass available for $9 on North America, Europe and Asia services.
