AirAsia plans US services

AirAsia plans US services

Malaysian carrier AirAsia X will commence flights to the USA in November, lapping up the opportunity for expansion as the price of fuel drops.

From 1 November, the airline will offer four weekly flights on its Airbus A330 between Kuala Lumpur and Honolulu, with a stop in Osaka to refuel, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The budget carrier in 2012 canned plans to London and Paris due to high fuel prices, but remains as Asia’s largest LCC group with three long haul affiliates in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. It currently operates between 18 cities in Asia, Australia and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia with a fleet of 23 A330 planes.

The new flights will be the first between Malaysia and Hawaii.
