6 things agents know that travellers don’t

Travel agents are renowned for being fountains of knowledge in the industry.

But if the industry praises the amount of info they retain, then travellers are even more in awe.

According to American Express Travel, who shared insights with Travel Market Report, there are six key things a travel agent knows that a customer does not.

Check them out here:

  1. How to get personal

And by personal, we don’t mean inappropriately close. No, per TMR, agents known how to personalise a trip in ways travellers can’t even fathom.

And a good travel agent (because we know how to pick a bad agent), is highly trained to create itineraries that reflect clients’ unique lifestyles and interests.

TMR says not only are they well-equipped to recommend the right destination and property to meet your needs, but they’re also completely comfortable with customising your itinerary for a blissful getaway.

  1. How to get local

Travel agents can bring you into a destination with just the knowledge in their mind and at their fingertips, they’re that good.

According to TMR, agents can ensure you experience the authentic and the unexpected, while staying within your budget.

On top of that, they’re able to give you access to unique events, and bespoke activities and tours.

  1. How to add value

Your travel agent is, per TMR, always in the know about current and upcoming deals, so you can bet you’ll get the best rates, that extra spa treatment, and gold class food and beverage for the same (or even cheaper) price.

  1. How to find a seemingly impossible room

Ideal hotel room not available? Well, close the tab on that OTA and head to an agent, because even when a website shows no availability on rooms during your travel dates, agents have their ways.

Many properties hold inventory on reserve  for preferred partners, and yes that includes travel agents.

Plus, agents know the clever hotel lingo, and knows when “mountain views” is code for “overlooks parking lot”.

  1. How to troubleshoot

Per TMR, an agent can help you with everything from minor glitches to major disasters, and it’s here where they actually come into their own.

Travel agents can change flights, upgrade and rebook hotel rooms, find missing luggage, and submit an insurance claim.

  1. How to ask about dietary restrictions

Agents have a more in-depth knowledge of hotels and cruise lines that cater to individual health requirements, according to TMR, so they can recommend the best option for each client. And if you have dietary requirements, you’ll want an agent in your corner.
