What does the future of travel look like?

Travel is constantly evolving – and we’re all constantly changing the way we do it.

Ahead of World Tourism Day, we decided to chat to an expert in the industry to tell us why tourism is so important, and what new things are going to shake up travel.

Allianz Global Assistance chief market manager Damien Arthur has got the goods.

“The nature of travel has evolved considerably over the past couple of decades with notable transformations in how we travel, who we travel with and why we travel, opening our minds to new places and experiences,” Arthur told Travel Weekly.

“We understand the needs of the modern day traveller and the important role travel plays in the lives of Australians. World Tourism Day allows us to reflect and celebrate tourism, as well as driving home the importance of staying safe when globetrotting.”

With regards to how travel is changing, Arthur said it’s essential to predict and be prepared.

“As Australian travellers seek increased diversity and experience from their travels, Allianz Global Assistance has developed policy types in line with customer demand with optional add-ons for backpackers, ski-trips or adventure-fuelled holidays,” he said.

“There’s plenty of assumptions around the future of travel and at Allianz Global Assistance we’re excited about the prospects.

“Whether it’s commercial space travel, virtual reality destination testing or hotels without any physical staff members, it’s certainly a space to watch!”

“A recent #HELPME Study by Allianz Global Assistance found that Australia ranked second in their thirst for travelling with technology.

“With this in mind, it’s no surprise that Facebook has a whopping 12 million Australian users, 9 million of which are active each day.”
