Voyages Indigenous Tourism raises $54,000 for Aṉangu Communities

The Yulara and Mutitjulu Communities came together on the weekend to host a local fundraising evening for the Aṉangu Communities Foundation, raising around $54,000.

This was the second fundraiser for the Foundation this year, following an event in Sydney in September that raised in excess of $60,000.

Around 150 guests attended the dinner held at Ayers Rock Resort which was emceed by well-known Indigenous actor, Trevor Jamieson who has starred in movies such as Rabbit Proof Fence and Storm Boy.

Local artists collective, Maruku Arts performed an Inma to welcome everyone to the event and Pitjantjatjara guitarist, Jeremy Whiskey entertained the crowd following the release of his first album “Dreamtime” in July of this year.

For more than 50,000 years, Anangu have been the traditional custodians of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and the central desert region of Australia.

Established by Voyages in 2003, the Anangu Communities Foundation has been funding projects to support the Anangu communities of central Australia, with a focus on building community capacity in the sectors of healthcare, education, and economic and social participation.
