Virgin Australia denies calling Kanye a “douche”

Virgin Australia delighted the rather large section of the Twitterverse that loves to hate rapper Kanye West when a tweet posted on its official account branded him a “douche”.

The tweet came in reply to one of West’s own which was reacting to a review by music publication Pitchfork which gave his new album nine out of 10. West insisted the album, The Life of Pablo, deserves 30 out of 10.

The Virgin Australia tweet said: @kanyewest EAD you douche.

EAD is a common acronym for “eat a dick”.

A statement issued by Virgin Australia denied any involvement.

“A recent tweet on our account was not published by a Virgin Australia employee and we are investigating the matter,” the statement said.

“We apologise for any offence caused.”

Although Virgin removed the tweet within seconds of it being posted, in that time it was seen by thousands of its followers and retweeted to the world.

But rather than causing offence, the tweet actually thrilled the Twitterverse which had been bemused by a recent deluge of tweets by West in recent days. In one such tweet, he asked Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to invest US$1 billion into his “ideas”.
