Uniworld unveils its latest crown jewel
S.S Maria Theresa is preparing for her big launch on March 16, as the newest Super Ship of Uniworld.
Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection has called this ship its most ambitious ship to date, fashioned in the spirit of her great namesake, the much beloved Maria Theresa.
The design team, led by visionaries from Uniworld’s sister company, the Red Carnation Hotel Collection, included president and founder, Beatrice Tollman, and her daughter, Toni Tollman, who took inspiration from the Baroque period over which Maria Theresa presided.
“Our aim is to transport each guest into experiencing the fantasy of living in an 18th-century Baroque castle,” Toni Tollman said.
“We designed the S.S. Maria Theresa to take our guests on a journey back in time with an onboard atmosphere and style seamlessly integrated with the history and architecture of the very places they will visit onshore, as well as provide them with the latest in luxurious comfort and technology.”
The three-tiered lobby features a sweeping marble staircase with wrought-iron balustrade and royal crown detailing is stunningly accompanied by a hand-painted Tromp L’Oeil-inspired mural, Venetian Murano glass chandelier and a ten-foot original oil on canvas painting of the beloved ruler.
The colour palette of S.S Maria Theresa includes royal blues, golds, white and soft greys, while antique wood paneling and custom furniture pieces channel the period.
Guest areas to relax in also include the Habsburg Salon, Viennese café, 10-seat Lipizzan cinema and signature Leopard Bar.
The S.S. Maria Theresa will be christened in Amsterdam on March 26, 2015 by its godmother, Princess Anita von Hohenberg, a direct descendent of Maria Theresa and great-granddaughter of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and Duchess Sophie von Hohenberg.
Uniworld’s Super Ship will set sail on her inaugural voyage on March 28 through the heart of Maria Theresa’s vast former empire on Uniworld’s Tulips & Windmills voyage from Amsterdam to Antwerp.
She will also serve the line’s popular European Jewels, European Holiday Markets, and Grand Christmas & New Year’s Cruise itineraries.
