Travel agents join Macao for fun run

Sydney travel agents joined a 60-strong Macao Government Tourism Office team to compete in the weekend’s annual fun run category of the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival.

The 4km event that left from Milsons Point and continued across the Sydney Harbour Bridge to the Sydney Opera House, included a happy Justin Smythe of Kings Park Cruise & Travel, with his wife, Kylie, and their two young children, Charlotte and Felicity.

Also joining the team were Free To Travel’s Vy Tran, Lena Frolich, Natasha Gouw, Rebecca Skauge, and Helen Wong’s Tours’ Brendan Zadravec and Chris Chan.

They ran alongside MGTO’s Helen Wong, Benjamin Zaubzer and Mike Smith, along with members of Casa de Macau and the local Macau Students Association.

For their efforts in both completing the course and raising money for charity, the suitably decked out runners in their Macao International Marathon T-shirts – the 35th marathon to be held in Macao on December 4 – were presented commemorative medals featuring the Opera House.

Zaubzer said “it wasn’t meant to be a marathon, it was more of a family outing with scenic Sydney at our feet, although our aim was to promote the upcoming Macao International Marathon on December 4 this year.”

“All we wanted from agents is for them to enjoy themselves and have a great time,” he said. “We covered the registration fee which would, in turn, cover our donation to the charity of our choice.”

At the end of the fun run, all team members regrouped to enjoy much-needed refreshments in Royal Botanic Gardens.
