Tourist in the Philippines told to ‘cover-up’

A couple in the Philippines were pulled over during Holy Week because of an “indecent” pair of bikini bottoms.

News.com reports a woman was riding on the back of a motorcycle in Bohol when officers pulled her over and ordered her to cover up her rear end with a sarong.

She was reportedly wearing a crop top and a particularly small pair of bikini bottoms that exposed part of her own bottom to passersby during a religious festival.

“Baclayon Police Station led by Senior Inspector Raymond Halasan, chief of police and his Women and Children Protection Desk officer Christine Vidal flagged down the two indecent foreigners riding a motorcycle, issued violation tickets to them,” a police spokesperson said, according to News.com

The unidentified couple were allowed to continue their journey, but local residents were not impressed.

“This is OK for the beach but not riding around outside,” News.com reports one resident said.

“Tourists should act like local people do in the place they visit. This is offensive. It is worse because this is Easter time and a religious holiday.”

The spokesperson added: “We are reminding tourists to please observe proper decorum even if they are guests in this place.”

Hopefully, this will serve as a timely reminder to travellers to research local events and customs before embarking on their next trip.
