Australia remains the number one destination for Kiwi travellers, with Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast all starring in travel plans for 2016.

An analysis by the hotel search website Trivago has revealed the top 30 destinations for this year, showing interest in visiting major international hubs like Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong has waned.

The Cook Islands is replacing Fiji as the Pacific Island hot spot, with the highest year-on-year rise of any destination, Trivago said.

The top 30 confirms New Zealanders love affair with Australia continues.

Sydney and Melbourne remain the most popular two destinations, while the Gold Coast comes in in 14th spot. Brisbane and Adelaide take 20th and 30th place respectively.

The data was collated by analysing all 2015 searches that used 2016 travel dates to determine which cities New Zealanders are most interested in visiting.

The top 10 in order: Sydney, Melbourne, Las Vegas, Honolulu, London, Singapore, New York, Rarotonga (Cook Islands), San Francisco and Paris.
