Samoa removes remaining COVID restrictions

Travellers will no longer need to take a supervised pre-departure COVID RAT test in order to travel to Samoa, marking the end of all COVID travel restrictions.

Samoa’s acting PM, Tuala Tevaga Ponifasio, announced the removal of the country’s pre-departure requirement for a supervised COVID-19 RAT for inbound travellers on 22 September.

According to the latest report from the country’s Ministry of Health, case numbers continue to trend lower and between 92 per cent and 94 per cent of the target population are fully vaccinated.

Prior to the announcement, pre-departure entry requirements included either a supervised RAT within 24 hours of departure or PCR within 48 hours of departure.

The easing comes nearly two months after Samoa reopened its borders to international travellers on 1 August.

“We welcome the easing of restrictions for all international guests. Since our borders reopened in August, we’ve enjoyed welcoming travellers, friends and family safely back to the country,” Pativaine Petaia-Tevia, CEO of Samoa Tourism Authority, said.

“Throughout the pandemic, we have continually reassessed health and safety measures to keep our communities safe, with the last two months proving Samoa can welcome international tourism back to its shores with confidence.”
