QLD developer nabs Lindeman Island with grand plans for ultra-luxe health retreat

Queensland’s Lindeman Island has been bought by a property developer and his wife who plan to build a luxury health retreat.

Shaun Juniper and his wife Samantha snapped up the island, formerly home to a Club Med property, which is just 15 kilometres from Hamilton Island, according to the Financial Review.

Juniper purchased the island from China-based White Horse Group which paid $12 million for it in 2012, the same year Club Med closed its property on the island, with grand plans to build a $600 million resort.

Juniper told the Financial Review the purchase marked a lifelong dream of his and said he believes the region is about to enter a new golden era akin to its 1980s popularity, fueled by travellers’ post-COVID desire for luxury travel.

“I’ve always had my eye on getting an island, and Lindeman is just an amazing place and one of the few islands with an airstrip – so you can fly here from Sydney,” he said.

Juniper plans to set up an international health and nature retreat on the island with facilities opening within 12 months featuring top practitioners, six-star facilities and the country’s best gym, and said he and his wife will “be pouring money” into the island to create an “unforgettable” experience.
