MSC Poesia makes her maiden call into Sydney Harbour

Sydney put on its best weather to welcome MSC Poesia, on her 119-day world cruise from Genoa, Italy, over the weekend.

This visit from MSC Cruises, the contemporary brand of the Cruise Division of MSC Group, marks only the third ship MSC Cruises has brought to Australia, with MSC Magnifica having visited in 2019 and 2020 and MSC Orchestra in 2015.

Sister ship, MSC Magnifica also departed Genoa, Italy on 5 January for simultaneous world cruises – an industry first.

Sailing together for the start of the cruises, the two ships parted ways at the edge of the Mediterranean for different routes around the globe. MSC Magnifica will reach New Zealand shores with a stop in Auckland on 8 March and Hobart, Australia on 15 March

In honour of the maiden call to this stunning city, MSC Cruises organised events throughout the day to welcome visitors. MSC Cruises invited media and travel agents to allow them to familiarise themselves with the unique MSC Cruises offering.

“We are thrilled to welcome MSC Poesia into Sydney. Having a ship in port provides a great opportunity for our trade partners and media to experience our Mediterranean hospitality,” commercial director, MSC Cruises, Lisa Teiotu, said.

After an overnight in Sydney, MSC Poesia will make her maiden call in Brisbane on 1 March, and finally Cairns on 3 March.

MSC recently held a naming ceremony in Copenhagen for MSC Euribia.

The ship will also feature further state-of-the-art environmental technologies including ‘Baltic Standard’ advanced onboard wastewater treatment system, waste management handling, energy efficiency measures as well shore power connectivity to enable zero emissions from the ship where onshore power is available.
