“Look at that thing go!”: Hamish & Andy host emergency slide party at Melbourne Airport

Australia’s fave comedy duo, Hamish & Andy teamed up with Rex Airlines and Melbourne Airport to wrap up their podcast for the year with an ‘Emergency Slide Party’.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Hamish & Andy recorded their final 2022 episode from the cabin of a Rex Boeing 737 passenger plane where they hosted 61 of their loyal podcast listeners, and finally realised their dream of deploying the emergency slide of a passenger plane and sliding down.

The Emergency Slide Party idea was conceived back in 2020 when planes were still grounded due to COVID.

So, the pair thought it would be the perfect time to slide down a plane’s inflatable emergency slide because you could have all the fun of sliding down, without, you know, having to endure a plane crash.

Of course, now that flights are back up and running, it took a huge amount of planning to get this idea off the ground, or rather keeping the plane on the ground, but thankfully the Emergency Slide Party went off without a hitch.

“Our Emergency Slide Party is a lesson in ‘you don’t know if you don’t ask!’ We asked, and Rex said yes! It is amazing the lengths we will go to for a three-second slide, but this way was a lot more fun than attempting it after an emergency landing,” Hamish & Andy said.

Rex chief operating officer, Neville Howell, said the airline was delighted that Hamish & Andy placed their trust in Rex to ensure this remarkable event was delivered both seamlessly, safely and so successfully.

“Everyone was thrilled with the result in what was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, again demonstrating why Rex is Australia’s most innovative airline,” Howell said.

“It was also wonderful working with Melbourne Airport and Melbourne Jet Base to provide a unique aviation experience for so many.”
