A travel industry lobby group has put a call out to agents who wish to be part of a renewed push for financial support from the federal government.

A group of agents who formed a Facebook group called ‘Australian Travel Industry Lobby Group’ is pushing for a financial support package for small to medium travel businesses to cover fixed costs and overheads while international borders remain closed.

It is also asking the government for a solution to the risks travel businesses face with regard to supplier insolvency and credit card chargebacks.

The group is calling on the minister for small businesses, Michaelia Cash, to assist in their request and as a next step, Cash has requested details from each agent who wishes join the action.

This comes just weeks after prime minister Scott Morrison announced the extension and reduction of the JobKeeper program that is keeping many tourism and travel businesses afloat.

The announcement has caused many members of the travel industry community to call out the program and propose a more targeted approach to help keep travel industry workers in jobs.
