It’s skiers VS snowboarders in this gnarly campaign

Snow fights are breaking out across the ditch in New Zealand.

But it’s all in good fun, Air New Zealand assures us, as its latest instalment of its ‘Meanwhile in… New Zealand’ campaign hits the slopes and screens.

In a slightly odd celebration of daily services to NZ’s ski fields, an epic snow fight has broken out between – you guessed it – skiers and snowboarders.

The age old mountain rivals battle it out with catapults and huge snowballs at Snow Farm on the eastern side of the Cardrona Valley, near Wanaka.

Watch the action here:

The video features New Zealand freestyle skier and Olympian Josiah “Jossi” Wells leading #teamski.

Some may also recognise the captain of #teamboard as Eddie Spearing, an adventurous Wanaka local and snowboarding personality who also starred as the Tortoise in Air New Zealand’s recent ‘Tortoise & Hare’ video.

Queenstown and Wanaka locals, keen to shred up their winter backyard with their Aussie neighbours helped round out the snow fight teams, while Air New Zealand crew were on hand to supply refreshments and aggressive tactics good-natured encouragement.

Viewers of the video also have the opportunity to declare their tribal affiliation to either #teamski or #teamboard in their comments, tweets and posts.

Aussie visitors to New Zealand this winter will also have the opportunity to win back the cost of their return flight. Each week from July 13 to August 30, one winner will be selected from those who have tagged a photo or video of their trip on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with #MeanwhileInNZ.

The’ Meanwhile in… New Zealand’ campaign showcases what is happening on the other side of the Tasman right now, encouraging more Australians to tick New Zealand off their bucket list and visit this winter.
