Inside a secret romantic rendezvous at QT Hotel Auckland

Inside a secret romantic rendezvous at QT Hotel Auckland

Love affairs and hotels go hand in hand.

Steamy rendezvous have taken place inside some of the most classy and glamorous of hotels since the beginning of time.

But, the love affair I’m about to share with you is a bit different.

I confess I am in love with QT Hotels, specifically their Auckland property.

QT’s lobby sets it apart from just about any other hotel in Auckland.

A couple of years ago I experienced what until recently was the best hotel stay I’ve ever had.

The team at QT Auckland had asked me if there was anything I wanted in my room for my arrival.

Tongue in cheek, I said Harry Styles would do. Little did I know the chain reaction of fun that would kick off following that comment.

Upon my arrival, his new album was playing on the sound system, there was a framed photo of Harry on the table (which I had until it smashed during my move to Sydney.) As well as a note “from Harry himself” apologising that he couldn’t join me, but to enjoy the champagne he had got for my stay.

Oh, and a rose of course.

Easily the most romantic thing that’s ever been done for me was done by a hotel.”

You can read more about that experience here.

Since then I’ve been in an on-again-off-again relationship with the hotels.

I’ve stayed in a few, including a recent stay at their property on the Gold Coast. While there was no Harry, I did have a lot of fun with the imagery in the lifts.

QT Gold Coast

Visiting friends and family back in Auckland, I was lucky enough to stay at QT Auckland again.

I was interested to see how the stay would go, given last time so much effort went into my stay, that I might not enjoy it as much when it’s essentially just a room with a bed, rather than a fleeting romantic moment with someone I’ve never met.

As it turns out, there may be no such thing as a “normal” stay at QT Auckland.

This time as I walked into the room, the iconic sound of The White Lotus theme song played on the television on repeat (I actually couldn’t work out how to turn it off so it stayed like that for a few hours).

The morning after the night before.

But, that was just the beginning. Sitting seemingly already drunk on the end of the bed was someone who would always be welcome in my hotel room, Jennifer Coolidge.

Well, more her body double.

Some intricate towel wrapping and on-point robe placement had this Tanya McQuoid sitting with a big smile on her face with two very large pink balloons standing in for…. Well, you know.”

Judging by the photos left around the hotel, McQuoid had made her way around the rooms.

Polaroid photos showed her from partying at the bar to partying in the bath. There was a Polaroid camera on hand for me to add snaps to her life story.

Next to Jennifer was note welcoming me to The White Lotus QT Auckland. While reminding me of all the highlights of the hotel, there was a heads-up at the bottom. Advising me to keep my eyes open as some suspicious-looking guests had checked into a room on my floor.

As The Carpenters would have said, we’ve only just begun.

The whole experience was very cool(idge). Special mention needs to go to their kitchen which went out of its to not only cater to my allergies but to run through the changes made to the meals which is very reassuring as any allergy sufferer will attest to.

This rendezvous was again fleeting, but it won’t be the last time.

As I left, much like Jack Dawson in Titanic I held onto the door and looked one more time at the stunning sight in front of me, and then let go leaving the hotel room behind.

QT Auckland, I miss you.

You hang up, no you hang up. Noooo, you hang up.
