G Adventures goes luxury with launch of Geluxe upgraded tours
The premium line is giving active, it’s giving luxury, and it’s giving back to local communities.
G Adventures has just launched their newest style of travel, The Geluxe Collection. The selection of 28 tours spanning 16 countries promises to deliver a unique blend of physical activity, stylish accommodation, elevated dining, and the commitment to community and culture for which G Adventures is famous. Think “adventures that feel like holidays”.
The trips are available to book now, and departures commence May 2024. Each itinerary has been carefully designed to offer an unforgettable experience for travellers, while also ensuring local communities get maximum benefit.
Travel Weekly recently experienced a taste of Geluxe during the GX summit in Peru, and we’re confident these trips will be a hit. The consideration that’s gone into every detail is obvious, and we’re eager for more Geluxe experiences, especially after seeing the promo video.
VP of product for G Adventures, Yves Marceau, said Geluxe will fill a gap in the market for travellers seeking a premium active experience that helps support local communities.
“We’re rolling out the purple carpet with our new line of premium active trips; The Geluxe Collection. These trips have been carefully curated for travellers who enjoy adventure with a softer landing, yet still appreciate meaningful interactions with local people as part of their travel experience.
“Each day has been meticulously crafted to get travellers deeper into the destination, while still being physically active throughout their trip. Every meal tells the story of the people and place it came from. Accommodation is unique to the location, and all trips have community tourism at their core, so travellers form a richer connection with local people and their culture, while also giving back as they travel,” says Marceau.
Every itinerary will feature at least one “OMG Stay” and one “OMG Day”.
“Your OMG Stay” will be lodging in a memorable location chosen for its beautiful design, remarkable history, and surrounding experiences. Examples include glamping sites like Changa Safari Camp in Zimbabwe, or Cardamom Tented Camp in Cambodia’s Cardamom Mountains. Boutique hotels in the roster include Mr and Mrs White Tinos in the Greek Islands, or the Casa Andina in Peru’s Sacred Valley.
“Your OMG Day” offers a chance to choose your own adventure. Travellers will be able to pick between two options of activities. For example, in South Africa travellers will be able to choose between a city walking tour and cooking class, or an urban explorer cycle tour.
Most also feature a “Your Foodie Moment” for epicureans keen to experience culinary traditions and local ingredients, and many itineraries include a “G For Good Moment” where travellers visit a business supported by G Adventures’ non-profit partner Planeterra.
The first 16 countries featured are Botswana, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, Peru, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
The maximum group size is 16, with an average of 10-12 people per departure.
Example Geluxe trips available to book now include:
Southern Morocco exudes natural beauty and sparks the spirit of adventure. An evening visit to the medina in Marrakech allows us to experience local music and dance. Hike in the incredible scenery of the Dades Gorge and take a camel ride at sunset to a desert camp to sleep in the Sahara under the stars. Walk among olive and juniper trees through the villages of Ouirgane and immerse yourself into daily life with a Berber family. If you’re looking for the heart and soul of Morocco, this is it.
The magnificent Angkor Wat in Cambodia sets the stage with its stunning sunrise. Next, be whisked away on motorbikes to partake in the creation of a delectable meal in a Cambodian village. You’ll then explore the Cardamom Mountains on foot and by kayak, with your experience actively contributing to the preservation of this protected area. As the grand finale, soak up the tranquillity of a Thai island, featuring more kayaking, beach barbecues, and epic sunsets.
Track wildlife on foot, led by expert specialists, learning what it takes to be a ranger and guide in one of the most spectacular places on Earth. Then, discover what else South Africa has in store with visits to Franschhoek and Cape Town. Cycle through scenic vineyards before kayaking around the beautiful Table Bay.
Japan is made for adventure seekers, bridging modern and ancient traditions. Discover the villages outside Kyoto on foot, kayak Japan’s deepest lake, and walk the breathtaking Michinoku Coastal Trail. This adventure dives deep into Japan’s past and present, using each day to explore outdoors.
