Flight attendants reveal worst passengers

Beautiful flight attendant putting a suitcase in an overhead compartment in an airplane and smiling at the camera.

Nobody likes a long haul flight, between the cramped spaces and that kid crying in the row behind you, but you know what’s worse? Being the flight attendant responsible for dealing with everyone.

A threat on online forum, Reddit, has unveiled some of the pet peeves of flight attendants, and what passengers can do to help make their job that little bit easier.

So if you want to stay on the good side of the crew next time you take to the skies, there’s a few things you should (and shouldn’t) do.

Don’t flirt with the crew

This one seems fairly obvious, but clearly happens often enough that flight attendants are more than tired of it.

Reddit user Unreg said, “The most annoying have to be the Mile High Club requests — no I don’t want to come to the bathroom with you.”

Don’t play with yourself

Again, seems obvious, but shockingly, there are passengers who think it’s acceptable to get busy with themselves during a flight.

NiKva 1744 said: “Those who think they are j**king off discreetly beneath their in-flight blankets, but who really aren’t. We know.”

Gross.

Work out where your seat is all on your own

Another Reddit user, CallMe, said, “I have often seen people show their boarding pass and ask where their seats are.

“It’s a big straight tube. How hard can it be?”

Keep your feet to yourself

Legs sticking out in the middle of the aisle? Please try keep them under the seat in front, because flight attendants are sick of frequently tripping over them.

Sad_Pandaa said, “I understand planes are incredibly tight and uncomfortable so I do my best to dodge these objects. The aisle is my very small workplace though and it’s unpleasant to get elbowed in the bum, tripped by a leg, etc.”

Don’t poke them to get their attention

User flygrlbanana said, “Poke me/pull on my uniform to get my attention. Who does that? I have gotten into the habit of poking back before I ask what can I help them with.”

Arm rests are called that for a reason

The same Reddit user, flygrlbanana, added, “Armrests are for arms not your nasty feet. The person sitting infront of you does not want to accidently touch your icky toes with their elbow. It’s gross.”

Just turn your darn phone off

Kordesii said, “Whenever I see someone who doesn’t turn off their electronics once the announcement is made, I just get filled with some sort of irrational rage. They all know the rules. They all know what is expected of them. Just f*cking do it!”

Don’t ask for a full run-down of the drinks trolley

Sad_Pandaa said, “Being asked what drinks you have gets old.

“If I had to list off every single beverage we had off to everyone who asked everyday I would lose my voice. Just ask for something and if we don’t have it we’ll go from there.”

Don’t complain about delayed flights

Another Reddit user commented, “I was a flight attendant for a long time [and] delays are not my fault.

“Even if you’re going to visit your dying mother, there’s nothing I can do to make the maintenance men work faster or make the snow stop falling. Stop yelling at me.”

Listen to the safety demo

Alicabali said, “I’ve been in the middle of a safety demo and had people feel the need to interject how easy my job is and how they could do it without a second thought.”

Crew795 added, “We do it for a reason, I get it if you fly a lot but we don’t know that about you, humour us.”

Don’t bring carry-on luggage when evacuating

In the event of an evacuation, flight attendants are sick of the self-righteous people trying to lug their bags out of the plane with them.

_transatlantique said, “I had to evacuate a plane once and most people were trying to grab their luggage, and then stopping to take pictures.”

Just don’t do it.

Stop with the oversized carry-on luggage

UberGerbil said, “If you want to carry all of your items on the plane please for the love of god make sure your carry on items are not too big and that you don’t have to many.”

Please try control your kids

Del said, “Keep in mind your kids have to follow the same laws the rest of us do, and ignoring that is only putting your kid at risk. Make sure they buckle up. If they don’t like it, too bad.

“And don’t ever let your kids run up and down the aisle, it’s dangerous for them, it’s rude to us, and it bothers everyone else.”
