Desire to travel greatly outweighs inflation or COVID concerns, Klook reports

Around 4 in 5 Aussies are determined to satiate their desire to travel overseas in 2023 despite concerns about inflation and COVID according to a new study by travel and experiences platform Klook.

The study has revealed that travelsilience (travel and resilience) is strong within travellers in Australia.

A large majority of the survey participants (81%) are eager to travel internationally again in 2023.

Despite 78 per cent of participants expressing they feel anxious about travel in the face of a looming global recession and other obstacles like increased costs, catching COVID and flight delays, Aussie travellers are not giving up on their travel plans just yet.

The desire to travel emerges stronger than concerns about the cost of travel with only 10 per cent planning to spend less on travel in 2023 than in 2022. Other common concerns Aussie travellers are about flight delays and lost baggage, and falling ill while travelling.

Despite these worries, travellers in Australia have already started planning their next overseas trip. A single, longer trip is the holiday of choice for Aussies (54%) with most planning go travel overseas for 10 or more days in a single trip (64%).

In order to maximise the experiences during their trips, over half the participants said they will aim to plan their travel itinerary ahead of time and over half are planning an overseas trip for July to September this year.

Travelsilience is the desire to travel despite all the odds against you and it’s clear from our survey data and past travel behaviour that this is a really strong trait in Aussies,” Henry Hooper, general manager of Klook Australia and New Zealand, said.

“I predict that 2023 will be the ‘Year of Travelsilience’ where Aussies are back in search of the joy of travel no matter what it takes.”
