“By this point it’s Lord of the Flies”: Qantas cops onslaught of Twitter hate after Dallas Fort Worth ordeal

Melbourne Australia- March 14, 2014: Qantas airplanes wait for departure at Melbourne Airport

Qantas has been slammed on social media after leaving a plane full of passengers stranded at Dallas Fort Worth Airport due to an aircraft issue.

There were nearly 200 passengers on the flight to Sydney on Wednesday when the crew discovered an issue with the aircraft after it was pushed back from the gate.

The issue was not easily solved and the flight was again delayed due to Sydney Airport’s curfew restrictions.

The nearest hotel was a $100 Uber away so many passengers slept on the floor at the airport until the next check-in at 9am.

Yet Qantas employees could not be found at this time causing unrest amongst the passengers.

“By this point it is Lord of the Flies,” tweeted The Guardian columnist Eleanor Gordon-Smith.

“A planeload of people is at checkin with nowhere to go and no guidance, the Qantas desk isn’t just unmanned it has become a Lufthsana desk, and 300 people have checked bags to nowhere.”

A Qantas spokesperson released a statement regarding the incident.

“We know this is a difficult situation for our customers whose plans have been disrupted,” the statement read.
