Bali flights cancelled for third day

UPDATE: LATEST BALI NEWS HERE

Flight cancellations between Australia and Bali have stretched into the third consecutive day as Jetstar and Virgin Australia continue to monitor a volcanic ash cloud over Denpasar airport.

Virgin has cancelled all Friday flights from Australia and will make a decision at midday about flights from Bali.

A Virgin spokeswoman said the airline was keeping a close eye on the weather but that conditions on Thursday “rapidly deteriorated”.

Jetstar will issue a statement about 9.30am, with a decision on Australia to Bali flights scheduled for Friday.

“We don’t have any aircraft based in Bali and as a result we need to get flights in before we can get flights out,” a spokesman said.

Both airlines will put on additional services between Australia and Bali in the coming days.

It follows yesterday’s news that both afternoon and evening flights would be cancelled.
