Virgin ditches domestic, trans-Tasman commissions

Virgin ditches domestic, trans-Tasman commissions
By admin

Virgin Australia will move to a 0% commission structure for Australian domestic and trans-Tasman air ticket sales from May 1 for trade partners with no commercial sales agreement with the airline.

It currently pays 2% commission on those fares.

However, the airline underlined its ongoing commitment to working with the trade, insisting that only a small number of its industry partners will be affected by the change.

“Virgin Australia is committed to working with travel agency partners to deliver an industry-leading agency sales experience,” a statement said.

Its recent investment in transitioning to the SabreSonic Global Distribution System (GDS) is a sign of its efforts to “improve its offering” for travel industry partners, it said. The shift made it easier for agents to book with the airline, reducing the time and effort involved in a transaction.

“This change affects a small percentage of total industry partners and Virgin Australia encourages those affected by the change to contact their Virgin Australia industry account manager or state-based sales support team,” it said.

The new commission policy applies to all distribution channels, although international and other short haul international destination tickets are unaffected by the change.
