Tune Hotels confirms Melbourne base

Melbourne has been confirmed as the Australia and New Zealand operational headquarters for Tune Hotels, as chief executive Mark Lankester opened bookings for its first Australian property which will open on November 1.

Lankester confirmed the Melbourne HQ will work in conjunction with Tune's corporate office in Kuala Lumpur.

"Given our long term plans for the region, the Australia and New Zealand HQ will be staffed relevantly to oversee and provide central support to Tune Hotels' properties in Australia and New Zealand," he said.

Victorian premier Dr Denis Napthine, present at the announcement in Kuala Lumpur, welcomed the news Tune will base itself in the state capital, revealing the investment will create up to 100 jobs.

The opening of the 225-room property at 609 Swanston Street, Melbourne will coincide with Victoria's Spring Racing Carnival with stays between November 1 and March 14 priced from $49 when booked by June 28.

Tune's Sydney Airport property will follow, with an opening date of early 2015.

Meanwhile, speculation continues around the location of hotel number three, with Adelaide and Perth both prime contenders.
