TA to strike deal with Air NZ
By admin

Tourism Australia and Air New Zealand are set to sign a marketing deal later today in the latest of a series of airline agreements struck by tourism chiefs.

TA managing director Andrew McEvoy and Air NZ chief executive Christopher Luxon are expected to reveal details of the agreement in Sydney this afternoon.

The Kiwi flag carrier will become the newest partner for TA which has already secured agreements in recent months with Virgin Australia, Etihad, Emirates, China Eastern and China Southern.

New Zealand is the largest source market for Australia and an expanded agreement with Air NZ is regarded as critical in growing arrivals.

Tourism Australia has made no secret of its desire to deepen its relationships with airlines, particularly since Qantas controversially withdrew marketing support from TA.

Australia’s international aviation capacity needs to grow by 40%-50% to reach TA’s Tourism 2020 goal with the number of domestic seats needing to increase by 20%-30%.

To achieve that growth, tourism officials have developed strategies to build stronger links with global carriers and to increase capacity on key strategic routes.
