NSW to receive major infrastructure boost
By admin

The announcement by the Baird Government of game-changing investment in cultural and major sporting infrastructure will be music to the ears of the tourism sector, according to Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF).

“This is the kind of big picture thinking that the tourism industry has been keen to see,” said TTF chief executive officer Margy Osmond.

“These investments will mean a more liveable, exciting Sydney that continues to attract international and domestic visitors.”

The investment in cultural and sport infrastructure from the state government’s proposed assest recycling will boost the NSW visitor economy, and support the state in reaching its target of doubling overnight visitor expenditure by 2020.

“Since the initial announcement of a $500 million fund, we have been urging the government to double the amount made available for cultural and sport infrastructure and we are delighted that it has done this,” Osmond continued.

“Sporting events and the arts play a critical role in the New South Wales visitor economy and today’s announcement will help those sectors to contribute even more in the future.”

Investments will reach as widely as the Sydney Opera House, the Art Gallery of NSW, and other dynamic art precincts in Walsh Bay and Parramatta.

In the sporting field, projected additional funding will pump new life into some of the state’s most significant sporting stadiums and events, including the ANZ Stadium as a key focus.

“The investment in the Art Gallery of New South Wales will mean a doubling of floor space and an increase in its capacity to attract major national and international exhibitions,” Osmond added.

“We also welcome the projected additional funding for stadia, ensuring that Sydney is home to some of the nation’s most significant major sporting events.”

“TTF strongly supports the government's asset recycling proposal – this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get our infrastructure priorities right.”
