February saw passenger numbers carried by the Qantas Group remain flat on the previous corresponding period as Qantas International continued its decline, the latest figures have revealed.

The airline group carried 3.61 million passengers for the month as groupwide capacity shrank 5.9% pushing load factors up 0.8 percentage point to 78.4%.

Chinese New Year drove up Jetstar Asia's passenger numbers by 16.6% on February 2012 figures to 301,000.

Jetstar International and Jetstar Domestic also saw rises of 3.1% to 391,000 and 3.5% to 800,000 respectively.

However, Qantas International saw its passenger numbers tumble 9.2% to 449,000 for the month as capacity declined 11.6%, prompting a slight rise in load factor of 0.7 percentage points to 80.7%.

Qantas Domestic also saw a decline of 2.1% to 1.66 million passengers. But load factor crept up 0.5 percentage points to 75.3% as capacity decreased by 3.2%.

Meanwhile, Qantas stressed that last year was a leap year, with the extra day distorting comparisons by around 3.5%.
