Midweek Interview with Amanda McCann, Marketing Manager Asia Pacific, Busabout

The challenge for the industry is… Keeping up with the changing social media landscape. It is a vital way to communicate with our customers.

The things I like about my job are… Working for a brand that I feel passionate about. Influencing young people to travel, to see the world, to grow and evolve through the experiences of new places and people different to their own – just as I did and still thankfully get to do.

And the frustrations… Not having an endless budget to do that ‚ò∫

If I didn’t work in travel I would be a… Landscape photographer travelling the world or a wine maker. Photography and red wine are my next biggest passions.

Qantas or Virgin? Virgin.

My proudest moment was… Learning I had been offered a place as a Tour Guide for Busabout. I hadn’t wanted anything as bad as I did that job.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was… Too naughty to write here.

I try to relax by… Drinking a good glass of red with great conversation.

The last time I feared for my life… Being a passenger in a minibus along the winey mountain roads in Morocco. They don’t have any railings on those high roads!

If I can, I always try to avoid… Negative Nancy’s.

I really wish I had… Realized the importance of learning languages in my youth.

The best advice I’ve ever received was… Believe in you and everyone else will too.

I don’t understand why… Life gets faster as you get older.

My greatest weakness is… FOMO – Fear Of Missing Out!

And my greatest strength… When I am determined about something, nothing stops me.

If I was prime minister I would… Offer free university education and make languages and environment studies compulsory throughout all schooling.

If I won $1 million on the lottery I would… Take all my family and friends to San Sebastian for a month long break of eating pintxos by the sea.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be… A surfer. I have tried a couple of times now and have accepted I am no Layne Beachley.

I’ve always wanted to travel to… South America. It’s top of the bucket list.

My favourite holiday was… My first time to Europe when I discovered San Sebastian!
