Midweek Interview with Adam Baker, Sales Manager VIC, Creative Holidays

The challenge for the industry is… Adapting to the ever changing requirements of end travellers who hold the power of decision making.

The things I like about my job are… Meeting likeminded individuals every day and working with them to grow their business while doing the same for mine.

And the frustrations… Misinformed people who talk too much.

If I didn’t work in travel I would be a… Homeless traveller wandering around the world.

Qantas or Virgin… All just depends on the route and timing – I’ll happily fly both.

My proudest moment was… Every time I have ever overcome a fear.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was… Something that involved lots of packets of 2 min noodles and a hotel ceiling fan.

I try to relax by… Playing guitar, surfing or chatting over a beer with friends.

The last time I feared for my life…. Getting my surfboard leash caught on a reef and having to detach myself from the board while under the water in a very strong rip.

If I can, I always try to avoid… People who are only interested in personally benefiting from others.

I really wish I had…. Three clones of myself so that I could be more efficient.

The best advice I ever received was… The key to being successful in sales is not being a good talker, but a good listener.

I don’t understand why… We don’t have the ability to teleport ourselves from place to place. It would allow for much more efficient sales calls, however we would have to limit it to a 100km radius as to not affect the airline industry.

My greatest weakness is… Coffee… I simply cannot survive without it.

And my greatest strength… The ability to adapt myself to the situation at hand and keep my eyes open for opportunities to overcome potential issues.

If I was prime minister I would… Keep a copy of the job adverts handy.

If I won $1 million dollars I would… Pay off my house and with the remainder I would travel to West Africa to find a community project to finance and participate in.

If I could be someone else for a day I would be… My dad. He is the greatest man I have ever met.

I’ve always wanted to travel to… West Africa

My favourite holiday was… My first time to Portugal meeting the hundreds of cousins I have and submerging myself in the vibrancy of local life in Portugal.
