MTA reports space sales "flurry"
By admin

Mobile Travel Agents’ managing director, Karen Merricks, caught up with none other than Sir Richard Branson at the Park Hyatt Sydney recently.

MTA is one of several companies around the world selected by the Virgin boss to act as accredited Virgin Galactic Space Agencies.

The firm reported three bookings for the space travel tickets from customers in the days running up to a June 1 price hike of $50,000 which took the ticket price to $250,000. Virgin Galactic recently decided to increase the price until the first 1000 passengers have travelled into space.

MTA co-managing director Roy Merricks said the start of the commercial flights into space is creeping closer following the success of Virgin Galactic's flagship SpaceShip Two's first rocket-powered flight recently.

"This event has brought us one big step closer to the day we'll actually be handing out SS2 tickets to clients who are already deposited for the space flights," he said, although no date is as yet confirmed.

Nearly 600 people around the world have now placed deposits for the flights.
