Kenya offers battlefield tourism

Kenya offers battlefield tourism
By admin

Visitors to Kenya can experience a variety of battlefield tours to commemorate the centenary of World War I.

The Kenya Tourism Board and Taita Taveta County are offering a range of battlefield experiences in Taita Taveta County, south west of Tsavo West National Park near the Tanzania boarder, where most of the fighting between the Germans and British took place.

They include visits to the Commonwealth War Grave site, where Indian and imperial troops are buried, and the police post building where the first shots of the war were fired in what became known the East Africa Campaign.

Tourists can also see the grave of the first war casualty and trenches and outposts that were occupied by soldiers from both sides.

National Parks including Tsavo East and Tsavo West are also easily accessible and rich in wildlife, including the famous Red Elephants, providing the option to combine a battlefield tour with a safari experience.

Kenya will host a number of events from now until August 2018, creating four years of tributes to honour the four years of war.
