Kevin Rudd told to pack his bags

Kevin Rudd told to pack his bags

Lastminute.com.au wants to send Kevin Rudd packing – on a plane to one of five tongue in cheek destinations.

The website wants the public to decide where he should go, with the chosen spot announced this Wednesday.

“Once the destination votes are in, we will pick a winning destination and offer our former leader a free holiday – on us,” lastminute.com.au head of marketing communications Kirsty La Bruniy said.

Shanghai, Christchurch, Northern Territory, Honshu and Bali are in the running for this political race.

Shanghai could be the frontrunner, with the booking website recommending getting lost in the population of 23 million.

The trip will not be at the pointy end of the plane, as lastminute.com.au is offering economy class flights only, but assures the former PM that it’s “more fun down the back of the plane”.

“No one knows what life may throw at them, like losing an election to Mr Abbott, so we recommend spontaneity as the way to go."

The website has launched a #whereshouldkevgo hashtag for the purpose of deciding the politician’s next port of call.

Lastminute.com.au reports that 62% of hotel bookings are made within a week of travel so Kevin’s impulsive trip puts him in good company with the rest of the country.

For more information on the proposed destinations, see below:

– Shanghai, China – As the loser of the election, no doubt you’re looking to escape the spotlight. Why not make good use of your fluent Mandarin and holiday where you’ll be one among millions? Over 23 million to be precise. Shanghai offers the ideal place to purposefully get lost among the crowds as you explore this thriving metropolis.

– Christchurch, New Zealand – Named one of Lonely Planet’s best in travel for 2013, post the destruction of the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes, Christchurch is bouncing back with new energy and inventiveness. A trip to this hot spot may just inspire another career bounce back? If Christchurch can do it …

– Northern Territory, Australia – Make good use of your RM Williams boots and get away from all the post election commotion with a visit to the Northern Territory. While there, why not send a coo-eeeeee bouncing across the vast landscapes? That way, you can swap between enjoying the sound of your own voice and the peaceful silence of nature – a pollie’s dream!

– Honshu, Japan – Hitting the election trail is no doubt exhausting so we recommend taking some time out at Japan’s Gero-onsen Hot Spring. Make like Tony, get in the budgies and take a dip in the steaming spring water renowned for relieving fatigue. If you feel yourself heating up, don’t worry. It’s not the hot-under-the-collar-Parliament kind of heat. This heat promises to have you relaxed in no time.

– Bali, Indonesia – Set yourself up overlooking lush, misty valleys. Flow Vinyasa style and get your downward dog on. Free your mind from anxiety as you meditate in the serenity of one of Bali’s many detox retreats. We suggest Bagus Jati, Ubud. But don’t tell too many people. You don’t want the Politics Detox to be the new flavour of the month.
