Boeing completes 787 test flight

Boeing completes 787 test flight
By admin

A Boeing 787 test flight has apparently gone according to plan, marking the first step in returning the troubled aircraft to service.

Boeing described the two hour nine minute flight, using a LOT Polish Airlines Dreamliner, as a "normal" production check flight intended to show all systems, including the backup and electrical systems, are functioning as intended.

The flight flew from Paine Field in Everett, Washington with a crew of six onboard.

"The crew reports that the flight went according to plan," a statement said. "With the completion of today's functional check flight, we will analyse the data from the flight and begin preparations for certification ground and flight demonstration in the coming days."

The operation of a certification demonstration flight, the next step, is intended to demonstrate the new battery system performs properly during flight conditions.

It follows a series of battery malfunctions that led to the Dreamliner's grounding around the world.

More than 600 of these functional flight checks were carried out in 2012 across Boeing's commercial aircraft programs, the manufacturer said.
