Discovering Aussie's favourite coastlines

Discovering Aussie's favourite coastlines
By admin

The latest study completed by Roy Morgan Research discovered which parts of Australian coastline is the Aussie favourite when it comes to a domestic holiday.

In a yearly period to July 2013, 11,567,000 Australians above the age of 14 took at least one domestic holiday.

With 1,671,000 of them (or 8.7%) reporting that their last domestic trip included time spent at the beach.

Accounting for 34.6% of all beach holiday-goers, Queensland comes out on top as the most popular state for a beach getaway.

New South Wales claims second place, falling short with 32.8% who is then followed by Victoria with 19.3%.

Strangely enough, Western Australia who has more coastline then any other state of territoy attracted only 10.7% of people who took a beach holiday.

Roy Morgan Research group account director, Angela Smith shared her views on the data collected.

“Considering our country’s vast coastline, it may come as a surprise that only 8.7% of the population travelled to the beach for their last domestic trip. However, when we consider that all but one of Australia’s capital cities are on the coast, and nearly 65% of Aussies live in a capital city, this figure makes more sense."
