Air travel survey reveals top trends when flying
By admin

TripAdvisor has announced the results of its second annual air travel survey, which gathered data from more than 4800 Australian respondents.

Aussies proved to be a well-travelled bunch, with 87% planning to travel domestically and 86% planning a trip overseas in 2014.

TripAdvisor Flights, APAC regional director Andrew Wong said despite some issues with flying, demand for travel was at a high.

"Demand for domestic and international travel continues to rise despite some persistent air travel frustrations, such as uncomfortable seats or unpredictable flight changes,” Wong said.

“But we are also seeing some positive signs as flyers report better in-flight entertainment and check-in processes that help improve the traveller experience.”

The top five air travel complaints saw little change from the 2013 survey, with uncomfortable seats and limited leg room ranking the worst, followed by crying children, costly airline fees, and long security lines.

Despite the complaints, however, most travellers are not prepared to pay more to avoid these problems.

Of those surveyed, 43% were not willing to pay to sit in a child-free zone, while 45% were not prepared to pay for extra leg room for flights under four hours.

Travellers cited better in-flight entertainment, streamlined check-in and boarding, and easier booking as the main improvements in air travel over the past five years.

Customers at the airport also reported using their mobile devices when flying, with 47% using to check in to flights, 44% researching flight prices and 43% checking their flight status.
