A Gatsby inspired gala

A Gatsby inspired gala

Jay Gatsby would have fit in amongst the sea of tuxedos and darling Daisy certainly did surrounded by fashionable flapper dresses at the 1920s Gatsby inspired Magellan gala and awards evening in Canberra last Friday.

Some 250 member and suppliers attended the swanky affair, ending the group’s stellar year with a record turnout of delegates to this year’s conference.

“It is such a quality group conference, the content is great, but the best part of the group is networking and its relevance. Everybody has a similar business model, and way of thinking. It is relevant suppliers, relevant agents,” Wings Away Travel owner, Anne Rogers told Travel Today.

“These awards don’t necessarily go to top sellers” Magellan chief executive officer, Andrew Macfarlane said, “they recognise those people that the owners of our member agencies tell us make an exceptional contribution to the success of their business whatever their area and expertise”.

Magellan Travel Group Award winners were:

·         Michelle McInerney  of Travel Superstore as Leisure Travel Consultant of the Year

·         Hayley Freeman of Platinum Travel Corporation as Corporate Travel Consultant of the Year

·         Ari King of Coopers Travel as Rookie of the Year

Commenting from King’s win, Coopers Travel owner Lynne Cooper told Travel Today Magellan Travel Group’s business model was the “right fit” for her agency.

“We live in a small regional town, traded under our own name and for me, this fits the bill. It’s always suited us to run our business the way we want,” Cooper said.

Co-founder and director, Trevor Jones took the occasion to present an inaugural “True Spirit” award to Jacqui Nelson of Albury Travel in recognition of her assistance to a fellow member which in Jones said, “epitomised the spirit of co-operation and collaboration that so typifies our group”.

Supplier’s top seller awards were also presented before the group partied till the wee hours – Gatsby style, of course.

Top Seller Awards were taken out by:

·         Gina Maitland of Alpha Travel for Insight Vacations

·         Brittany Gellard of Cathie Rice Travel for Trafalgar

·         James Jang of where2travel for Creative Holidays

·         Tamami Bullock of Andrew Jones Travel for APT

·         Julie Avery of Brighton Travelworld for Qantas Holidays/Viva

·         Mal King of Quality Travel for Globus Family of Brands.

Magellan will hold their 2015 conference in Melbourne.
