Dramatic audio captured as Air China aircraft declares emergency due to fire onboard

Travel Weekly has obtained dramatic audio of the moment an Air China flight declared an emergency due to a reported engine fire while on approach to Singapore Changi Airport on Sunday night.

Air China Flight CA403 was about twenty minutes away from landing when the crew onboard declared the emergency to Singapore controllers.

“Mayday, Mayday, Air China 403. Request priority landing,” the pilot can be heard saying on a live stream which was broadcast on LiveATC.net

Images from Changi Airport show passengers being evacuated via emergency slides while the aircraft was still on the runway, at one of Asia’s busiest airports.+

The aircraft involved was an Airbus A320 which has been operating for Air China since its first flight in 2018.

Smoke was reported in the aircraft cargo hold and one of its lavatory’s, but photos online show a cabin filled with smoke.

In one section of audio, pilots appear to be using breathing equipment.

Upon landing, emergency services extinguished a fire in the aircraft’s left engine.

This is breaking news and this story will be updated as new information becomes available.
