Qantas to continue its Norfolk Island service

Qantas will continue to connect Norfolk Island to mainland Australia, after securing a long-term contract with the Australian Government.

The national carrier will continue to operate six return flights per week to the Australian territory, three flights from Sydney and three from Brisbane, until at least March 2026 with options to extend further.

Services to Sydney operate on Monday, Friday and Sunday and flights to Brisbane operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The flights are operated by Qantas’ Boeing 737 aircraft, offering 2,000 seats across both routes each week.

Flights depart and arrive from the international terminals in Sydney and Brisbane, with a flight time of two and a half hours from Sydney and around two hours from Brisbane.

Fares from Sydney start from $401 one-way and from Brisbane from $381 one-way and there will be sale fares available during the year.

Qantas has been operating flights to Norfolk Island since January 2021 after COVID travel restrictions affected Air New Zealand’s ability to deliver flights between Norfolk Island and Australia.

“We’ve been operating flights from Norfolk Island to mainland Australia for the past two years and are pleased the local community has long-term certainty that these services will continue,” Qantas Domestic and International CEO, Andrew David said.

“A reliable air service connecting passengers and freight between Norfolk Island with Sydney and Brisbane is critical for residents and businesses on the island.

“Norfolk Island is a unique destination and we’re looking forward to working with local stakeholders to help drive more visitors to the island.”
