Delta Goodrem belts out classic Aussie hit in new Cunard commercial

Australian pop royalty Delta Goodrem performs an Aussie classic while sailing through sunrise in stunning new Cunard commercial to celebrate the companies return to Australia.

Filmed onboard Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth to celebrate her return to Sydney for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, the video shows Goodrem’s moving performance of Waltzing Matilda on the bow of the ship as she sails into the harbour city on a glorious morning.

Goodrem, who was dressed by Australian designer Nicky Velani in a free-flowing silk dress in the colour of Cunard red said the performance was a standout.

“I’ve performed in many locations around the world but performing on the bow of Queen Elizabeth as she sailed through Sydney Harbour was one of my highlights,” Goodrem said.

“As we neared the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, performing Waltzing Matilda was truly a magical moment.”

The campaign launches to coincide with the start of the Australian Open today and will see a 30 second TVC running across various TV channels, VOD, BVOD, as well as the full 100 second version on paid social and YouTube for three months.

“We wanted to show our Australian audience how special Australia is for Cunard, particularly after our long 2.5-year absence,” said Matt Gleaves, Cunard VP, commercial for North America and Australasia.

“It would be remiss of us to not take advantage of one of the world’s most breath-taking harbours to be centre stage of our new campaign.

“Adding superstar Delta Goodrem’s performance into the mix makes this commercial one of the most iconic our brand has ever produced.”

James D. Morgan, creative director and photographic consultant to Getty Images added: “The whole team is immensely proud of the powerful and emotive film we created at sea with Cunard’s iconic Queen Elizabeth and Sydney Harbour as our backdrop.”

It was an incredibly complex and challenging shoot but with our talented team of creators at Getty Images mixed with the awesome talents of Delta with her team and the crew at Cunard, it turned out to be one of the top highlights in a career spanning 35-years of creating photographic shoots and film content across the world.”
