News Corp’s Escape is on the hunt for Australia’s best travel agency

News Corp Australia’s travel publication, Escape, has partnered with the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) to promote its Australian Travel Accreditation Scheme (ATAS) accredited agency with a nationwide competition.

The competition, which is now live on the Escape website, asks readers to nominate their favourite ATAS accredited travel agency to win some of the following prizes:

  • Two return economy class tickets on Singapore Airlines (SIA) for travel from any Australian city served by Singapore Airlines to any European or UK city served by Singapore Airlines.
  • Avalon Waterways – Active and Discovery River Cruise on the Rhone for Two People to travel in the Panorama Suites.
  • Win a cruise for you and a guest on Royal Caribbean.
  • 2 x 2 Virgin Australia economy, return flights anywhere on the Virgin Australia network.

The winner of the national competition in Escape.com.au and the Escape Sunday lift out to find Australia’s favourite travel agency will be announced at AFTA’s National Travel Industry Awards (NTIA) on 15 October.

“News Corp Australia has long been a staunch supporter of Australia’s Travel Sector and especially since March 2020 where their editorial, including in local community mastheads, helped spotlight the immense pressures Australia’s travel professionals were struggling with as we supported Aussie travellers impacted by COVID-impacted travel and cancellations,” AFTA CEO Dean Long said.

“AFTA and Australia’s Travel Sector is delighted and extremely grateful for News Corp Australia’s on-going support including now as we rebuild.

“As more and more Australians start travelling again, we need to promote the importance of choosing ATAS-accredited travel businesses.”

“A huge shout out to our major NTIA sponsor Singapore Airlines and to Avalon Waterways, Royal Caribbean and Virgin Australia for getting behind this great initiative.”

Kerrie McCallum, editor-in-chief of Escape added: “As travel begins to rebound, and we navigate the world in an entirely new way, travel agents have returned to the fore.

“Many helped repatriate travellers as the pandemic hit, and spent months chasing credits for their customers while business came to a standstill. It’s a rocky road to recovery, though, so we’re really pleased to partner with the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) to help find Australia’s best travel agency.”
