Travel veteran launches unique tour operator

Travel industry veteran and former tour leader Kristina Wilson has launched her very own tour operator – Inverted Atlas.

Recognising a gap in the market for unique and exciting ways to travel, Wilson launched her new business at a time when international travel is experiencing a resurgence and people are looking for different ways to travel in a post-COVID world.

Inverted Atlas will travel not only to emerging destinations but will also visit some of the world’s most popular destinations with a twist.

“Our tours don’t offer the Valley of the Kings or the Taj Mahal as standard, we visit the newly-opened Tomb of Nefertari or give our travellers the chance to track snow leopards in the wilds of Mongolia,” said Wilson.

“At Inverted Atlas, there’s something for everyone – we offer budget, mid-range and luxury tours, as well as tours in the niche market of ‘Special Interest’ which is the product that really sets us apart from our competitors.

“There’s also our ‘Signature’ product, of which we are very proud – these tours, in particular, follow themes or explore destinations that no other tour operator we are aware of has touched previously. We truly take the road less travelled.”

Specialising in North Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and India, as well as special interest, Inverted Atlas aims to take its travellers to places forgotten by regular tourists, to provide new experiences and to stay in accommodation ranging from the historical to the truly bizarre.

Inverted Atlas is also committed to supporting the destinations it visits, from hiring local tour guides and leaders, to visiting and contributing to local projects and charities ensuring that travellers not only get a unique experience but also get to contribute by way of an ethical and sustainable journey.

This ethos is also reflected throughout the company’s practices, with a deliberate choice to offer competitive and inclusive wages to staff and contractors, and an internal focus on personal development and round-table thinking.

The team are all given the opportunity to develop and lead tours and offer ideas, with the result producing a collaborative environment that draws on the wealth of knowledge and practice of the talented staff to create a better product and client response.

With decades of experience between them and all with a background as former tour leaders, the team at Inverted Atlas are in a unique position to identify and provide a point of difference missing from other tour products.
