Melbourne couple recreate cancelled cruise in their living room

While millions of travellers around the world lament the spate of cancellations and restrictions taking place in this time of uncertainty, one Melbourne couple has found the silver lining.

Melbourne-based woman Jane Trill posted a short video to Twitter of her parents enjoying a cruise ship experience from the comfort of their living room after their holiday was cancelled.

The couple, Norma and Dave, had planned to go on a 10-day cruise around the Pacific Islands to celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary, but their trip was cancelled among the swathe of cruise lines suspending trips in the last few days.

In the video, you can see the 74-year olds decked out in bathrobes with champagne in hand while relaxing on lounge chairs as they watch footage of the ocean on their television.

The video is captioned “Cruise cancelled? No problem”.

“They cancelled their trip due to the coronavirus and we thought we would cheer them up by simulating the trip using a YouTube video of the ocean and they dressed in their usual cruising attire,” Jane told Storyful.

“We laughed for ages over it and it really lifted our spirits. [We were] rolling on the floor laughing.”

Trill also Tweeted that the response to the clip has been so overwhelming she is thinking about making a follow-up video where they arrive at their destination.

The clip has since racked up more than two million views on Facebook and loads of positive comments from viewers.

“Doomsday prepping in style. Outstanding,” said one Twitter user.

“Great to see you have a supply of TP with you,” a Facebook user quipped.

In response to one comment, Trill Tweeted she was happy the video “has spread some light in these uncertain times”.
